The Art of Treasure Hunting Pt 1.

When I had the idea to share my thrifting tips, so many different things started going through my head. I quickly learned it was going to be a VERY long post, and no one likes too long of a post. So, I have decided that Saturdays will be dedicated to thrifting tips since it is the day when I typically get to shop. Each Saturday will come along with a few different tips. Fun, right?

Today's tips are more geared toward what to wear...

Tip # 1: Wear jeans or shorts. Why? If gives you a good idea of what a shirt will look like. Sometimes all you may find are shirts, and if you are wearing a dress, you would have to guess what the shirt would look like if you had pants on & sometimes that doesn't work out too well. Or, you would have to find pants to try on just for the sake of having pants on.

Tip #2: Dress casual. Nothing is worse than walking around when you aren't comfortable. Being cozy and focusing less on your outfit for the day allows you to shop easily.

Tip #3: Wear or bring a belt. Some places allow you to bring a belt into the dressing room, others don't. Typically belts are necessary when wearing your thrifted items such as skirts, dresses, or oversized shirts. Bringing in a belt will help you visualize and see what the outfit could look like.

Tip #4: Wear a tank top or a camisole. Some shirts are sheer, some dip down low; it's always nice to be prepared.

Tip # 5: Wear a satchel/longer purse. Trust me when I say it is SO much easier to shop when your bag isn't right underneath your arm pit or hanging on your arm. Having it down by your hip frees up your arms.

Tip #6: Wear flats, flip flops or shoes that can easily be removed. Typically thrift store floors aren't very clean. I like wearing sandals so that I can keep them on when trying on clothes.

That's it for part 1. Next week I will actually get into the thrift store rummaging, or as I like to call it, the good stuff.

Also, like my scarf? It used to be a tank top that I never wore. It's now a new infinity scarf. A pair of scissors was all it took to take the straps and the top portion off the shirt. Easy stuff.

Easy peasy.

So readers, what do you like to wear when you thrift?

  8. Gorgeous outfit! Love the thrifting tips. I was so excited when I realized I do/have learned these things already! Totally agree about the long bag. And the scarf idea is such a great one! Will have to try that for a few of my old shirts.
