Introducing My Closet!

They say a clean closet is a happy closet. And since my closet becomes very grumpy when she's a mess, I am going to have to agree with this one. My closet enjoys being clean, she loves when I give her new friends, and from time to time, she lets me cry on her shoulder. {if you haven't tried crying in your closet, give it a shot... solid bonding moments produce solid outfits}. She's trustworthy and I just love coming home to her every night. After all, who needs dogs these days when you have a closet like mine?

Unfortunately, my closet is the first thing to get messy. In the morning rush I don't have time to put everything back perfectly, and well, my closet starts to get a little sloppy. Fortunately, I do have systems in place that help me stay organized.

Meet my closet. She's not the biggest thing, but it's what's on the inside that counts...

And most of the time, when I need her to look like that, my bed needs to look like this...

But, like I said before, I have a few things in place that help me manage my closet a little bit better.

Exhibit A: My mirror. Looks like a normal mirror on the outside, but open it up and TA-DA!

From the outside you would never know this mirror held all of this. It keeps the appearance of my room looking nice, eliminates the need for jewelry organizers, and keeps everything in it's place.
(See mirror here for it's original price. But a few weeks of searching on Craigslist and I found this brand new for $80. )

Exhibit B: My skirt hangers. I found the most amazing skirt hangers at Wal-Mart and only Wal-Mart. They are $4.88 per hanger but hang 12 skirts in the least amount of space ever. Prepared to be amazed.

Do you see what a small amount of space my skirts take up in my closet? And guess how many are there...
Let me just tell you, I shocked myself with the number.
Drum roll please........ 60 skirts! In that small space! (P.s. how many skirts makes you a skirt-aholic?)

Exhibit C: A good shelving system. I can't take too much credit for the shelving system that was already in place in my closet. But, if you ever have a choice, these shelves are the perfect shelves/shoe racks.

Exhibit D: Ottoman that doubles as a step ladder and a belt holder. Who noticed that little pink box on my closet floor? I had the problem of not being able to reach my top shelves and I also had an issue storing my belts. So combine the two problems and a storage ottoman was the perfect solution. Best $25 ever spent... thanks Target. (Actually, I mentioned wanting this ottoman once for this very reason and Donnie actually surprised me with it!) See ottoman here. (Also available in other colors)

Who else can give me more tips about great storage solutions?? (P.S. Sorry for the lack of posting... company is leaving tomorrow morning and I will have my picture spot back on Wednesday!)

    1. Yes! Keep holding out! I dreamt of a walk in closet for years and didn't get this one until October of last year.

  5. These are so helpful! Unfortunately, I have very limited closet space. {i.e. most of my stuff is jammed in drawers. :( } Since most of my dresses and skirts don't make it to the floor, I stock my shos there. All lined up under the dresses, like rows of soldiers. :D

Your closet is awesome. And I'm seriously loving all those shoes. :)
We have an ottoman like that in our living room - it doubles as a games cupboard. :)

  7. Love this post! I have a small closet but the worst part is how the closet storage was put in. There is a small section where I can use some of the racks that I can't hang things on to store my shoes like that. Thanks for the tip. And I must add a storage ottoman to mine as well. I have another "wasted space" area of my closet where i could store the ottoman when I'm not using it as a step stool. Again, great post!

    1. Ugh! I hate those wasted areas. I have had so many different closets and have had to go through so many different crates and such to maximize my storage in each one. I love my ottoman... it has been my favorite addition to my closet!
